Overview
Station 9 is the Pick & Place station responsible for removing finished pre-rolls from the machine.
Compared with the previous stations, Station 9 requires relatively few adjustments.
Main setup points:
- Pick & Place vertical position
- Adjustment for 0.5 g and 1 g pre-rolls
- Correct outfeed funnel for each format
- Daily cleaning of the Pick & Place rods
Understand the Main Station 9 Adjustment
The primary mechanical adjustment at Station 9 is the vertical position of the Pick & Place assembly.
This adjustment changes the working height of the mechanism according to the pre-roll format being produced.
Unlike stations with multiple mechanical setup points, Station 9 mainly requires the correct height and outfeed tooling for the selected format.
Adjust for 0.5 g Pre-Rolls
When running 0.5 g pre-rolls, the Pick & Place assembly needs to operate from a lower position.
Lower the vertical adjustment until the mechanism reaches the appropriate working position for the shorter pre-roll.
Make the adjustment gradually and check the movement of the Pick & Place mechanism before running production.
Adjust for 1 g Pre-Rolls
When running 1 g pre-rolls, raise the Pick & Place assembly.
The video instructs the operator to bring the adjustment all the way up for the 1 g configuration, then ensure the mechanism operates smoothly in that position.
Use the Correct Outfeed Funnel
The outfeed funnel must also match the pre-roll format.
0.5 g: Use the shorter outfeed funnel.
1 g: Use the taller outfeed funnel.
This tooling change is important during a format changeover and should be verified at the same time as the Station 9 height adjustment.
Understand the Purpose of the Taller Funnel
The taller outfeed funnel used with the 1 g format provides additional support for the longer pre-roll.
This helps prevent the pre-roll from tilting to the side as it moves through the outfeed area.
Using the correct funnel therefore helps maintain the orientation and stability of the finished pre-roll during removal.
Verify the Station After a Changeover
Whenever changing between 0.5 g and 1 g, check both Station 9 setup points together:
For a 0.5 g setup, verify that the Pick & Place assembly is in the lower working position and that the shorter outfeed funnel is installed.
For a 1 g setup, verify that the Pick & Place assembly is raised and that the taller outfeed funnel is installed.
Clean the Pick & Place Rods Daily
The final maintenance point shown in the video is the cleaning of the Pick & Place rods.
The technician recommends keeping these rods clean after every day of production.
Final Verification
After setting up or changing over Station 9, verify that:
- The Pick & Place height matches the pre-roll format.
- The mechanism moves smoothly through its working range.
- The shorter outfeed funnel is used for the 0.5 g configuration.
- The taller outfeed funnel is used for the 1 g configuration.
- The 1 g pre-roll remains supported and does not tilt excessively during outfeed.
- The finished pre-roll is removed cleanly from the machine.
- The Pick & Place rods are clean.
